After alot of talking and researching, Dan and I have decided that we want to become foster parents. We feel this would be a very rewarding and positive experience. We understand we may have to deal with alot of behavioral issues and that it will be hard to let go when they, hopeully, are reunited with thier parents. But we feel it is completely worth it and we feel an almost calling for it. I hope that family and friends will support this. There is such a need for foster parents. When there is not enough, children will be placed in group homes. I want to show the children that have never had a stable and loving home, proof that it is possible. We will keep you up to date on our progress and where we are with it.
So Far:
We have our first informal interview with the children's division this friday (3/8) where she will interview us, tour the house and take our fingerprints and background checks. We have been cleaning and kid proofing alot. But the whole process itself takes about 4 months. We have to take a class and get licensed. We also have to have at least 4 home studies/visits. They will create our profile and we will be set.
We are also concidering foster-to-adopt. But that will be a ways off for now. First things first is getting though foster care licensing.
We are also still going through with have an IUI next month if funds allow it. Which at this point, it's not likely. :(
